Kenya Vision 2030

Kenya Vision 2030 is the long-term development blueprint for the country and is motivated by a collective aspiration for a better society by the year 2030. The aim of Kenya Vision 2030 is to create “a globally competitive and prosperous country with a high quality of life by 2030”. It aims to transform Kenya into “a newly-industrializing, middle income country providing a high quality of life to all its citizens in a clean and secure environment”.

The Vision is a product of a highly participatory, consultative and inclusive stakeholders’ (international and local experts, ordinary Kenyans and stakeholders from all parts of the country) process carried out between October 2006 and May 2007. Between July and August 2007, the contents of the Vision 2030 were again subjected to open consultations in all provinces in Kenya before the document was finalized.

H.E. President Mwai Kibaki launched Vision 2030 as a vehicle for accelerating transformation of our country into a rapidly industrializing middle-income nation by the year 2030

The Vision

A national long-term development blueprint to create a globally competitive and prosperous nation with a high quality of life by 2030, that aims to transform Kenya into a newly industrializing, middle-income country providing a high quality of life to all its citizens by 2030 in a clean and secure environment.

Political Pillar

Moving to the Future as one Nation

Vision 2030 envisions a country with a democratic system reflecting the aspirations and expectations of its people. Kenya will be a state in which equality is entrenched, irrespective of one’s race, ethnicity, religion, gender or socio-economic status; a nation that not only respects but also harnesses the diversity of its people’s values, traditions and aspirations for the benefit of all. The Vision aims to move all Kenyans to the future as one nation.

Economic Pillar

Moving the Economy up the Value Chain

The Economic pillar identifies six priority sectors which will transform Kenya. These are: Tourism, Agriculture and Livestock, Wholesale & Retail, Trade, Manufacturing, Financial Services, Business Process Offshoring and IT-Enabled Services.

Social Pillar

Investing in the People of Kenya

Kenya’s journey towards widespread prosperity also involves the building of a just and cohesive society that enjoys equitable social development in a clean and secure environment. This pillar aims to improve the quality of life for all Kenyans by targeting a cross-section of human and social welfare projects and programmes. This quest is the basis of transformation in eight key social sectors, namely; Education & Training, Health, Water & Sanitation, Environment, Housing & Urbanization and Gender, Youth, Sports & Culture. This pillar also makes special provisions for Kenyans with various disabilities and previously marginalized communities.
